What decides one of these is floor space per chair, clearance behind for reclining and chair weight capacity — measured before the order, not after it.

What decides the fit

Floor space per chair
6 ft and above per station is comfortable and leaves room for a rolling tray and a client walking past behind.
Clearance behind for reclining
Roughly 18 to 24 in behind is what most reclining chairs need to reach full extension. It is measured from the back of the chair at full recline, not at rest.
Chair weight capacity
Traditional barber chairs are generally rated higher than styling chairs and are built around a heavier hydraulic base. The figure is on the manufacturer's sheet and it is worth reading.

Worth knowing before you order

Why floor

Most professional chairs stand on their own weight rather than being bolted down, and the weight is deliberate — a chair that shifts when a client sits or reclines is unusable. Where a chair is anchored it is usually for reclining models taking a full weight at the extremes of travel. The floor question that matters more often is what is under it: a hydraulic base concentrates load onto a small footprint, and soft flooring will dent permanently under it, which is why most shops put a mat or a hard surface under each station.

Spacing

Plan the room around the working circle rather than the chair. A barber needs to walk fully around the chair, so the useful dimension is the chair's footprint plus room to pass on every side, plus the reclined length if the chair reclines — which is considerably longer than its upright footprint. Then the aisle behind the station has to stay walkable while someone is working. Fitting one more station than the room wants is the most common regret in a shop fit-out.

Hydraulic

The pump is the part that gets used every client and the part that eventually fails, so it is worth asking two questions before buying: what the stroke is — how much height range you actually get, which decides whether tall and short barbers can both work comfortably — and whether the pump is a serviceable, replaceable part. A chair with a replaceable pump has a long life; a chair where the pump is integral to the base does not. Weight capacity is the third figure and it is on the sheet.

A presentation set. Venerabull is in its first phase and is signing its first manufacturers — the models on this page are our own, shown so a maker can see the page their line would get. As lines are signed their real products and photography replace these, and anything that was never inventory comes down.
