What decides one of these is concrete slab thickness, ceiling height, power and bay width — measured before the order, not after it.
Because the anchors are the whole safety case. A two-post lift transfers the entire load of the vehicle, and the leverage of the columns, into a handful of bolts set into the floor. Concrete that is too thin, too weak or too young lets an anchor pull a cone of material out under load, and the column moves. That is why the specification is always a pair of numbers — a minimum thickness and a minimum compressive strength — and why edge distance matters too: an anchor near a control joint, a crack or the edge of the pour does not have the cone of concrete around it that the rating assumes. A slab you cannot verify is a slab to core-test, not to guess at.
Two-post lifts take the vehicle by the frame and leave the wheels hanging, which is what you want for brakes, suspension and wheels, and they take up less floor. Four-post lifts take the vehicle by its own wheels on runways, which is easier to drive onto, much better for storage and parking one car over another, and the usual choice where anchoring is limited — many are free-standing. Scissor lifts trade height for a small footprint and are often portable. The honest question is not which is best but whether you are lifting to work underneath or to store above.
On a two-post lift the two columns have to be tied together so they rise evenly, and there are two places to do it. Overhead or clearfloor lifts run the equalisation across the top on a beam, which leaves the floor between the columns completely clear — a transmission jack rolls straight under — but costs you ceiling height and puts a beam where a tall vehicle wants to be. Baseplate lifts run it across the floor instead, which suits a low ceiling but leaves a ramp you step over and roll equipment over all day.
A presentation set. Venerabull is in its first phase and is signing its first manufacturers — the models on this page are our own, shown so a maker can see the page their line would get. As lines are signed their real products and photography replace these, and anything that was never inventory comes down.
