What decides one of these is rider and cargo weight, charging circuit and storage temperature — measured before the order, not after it.

What decides the fit

Rider and cargo weight
Most e-bikes publish a total system weight limit comfortably above a 220 lb rider, and that figure includes the rider, the cargo and anything on a rack. It is a structural limit, not a suggestion.
Charging circuit
A standard 15 or 20 amp household circuit covers charging comfortably. The battery, not the wall, is the thing to be careful with.
Storage temperature
Between roughly freezing and 80F is the ordinary storage range and nothing special is required.

Worth knowing before you order

Classes

In most of the United States e-bikes are sorted into three classes, and the class decides where you may legally ride. Class 1 is pedal assist only, cutting out at a lower speed limit. Class 2 adds a throttle at the same limit. Class 3 is pedal assist to a higher limit and is often barred from multi-use paths and bike trails where the first two are allowed. States adopt this differently and local trail rules differ again, so the class on the sticker is what a ranger or a police officer reads. Check the class against where you actually intend to ride before you buy.

Battery

Range is the least reliable number in the category, because it depends on rider weight, terrain, wind, temperature, tyre pressure and how much you pedal — published figures assume favourable conditions. The comparable number is watt-hours, which is capacity rather than a promise. Batteries are also the fire-safety question: buy cells and chargers from the manufacturer, look for third-party certification of the battery system, charge on a hard surface away from exits, and never charge a battery that has been crashed, swollen or soaked. Cold weather reduces range temporarily and storing at full charge in heat degrades it permanently.

Motor position

Hub motors sit in a wheel and drive it directly. They are simpler, quieter, cheaper, and they do not wear the chain and cassette because they act after the gears — but they cannot use those gears, so they are less able on a long climb. Mid-drive motors sit at the cranks and drive through the bike's own gearing, which multiplies torque on hills and puts the weight low and central where it handles better, at the cost of more chain wear and a higher price. Flat commuting favours a hub; hills and load favour mid-drive.

A presentation set. Venerabull is in its first phase and is signing its first manufacturers — the models on this page are our own, shown so a maker can see the page their line would get. As lines are signed their real products and photography replace these, and anything that was never inventory comes down.
